Is your mind running the show?
NOTE: Currently not accepting new clientsI work with LGBTQ2S+ adults who are tired of being "hooked" by their own minds—that loop of anxiety, the "not good enough" narrative, or that "stuck" feeling. We all get hooked.Hooked by the anxiety of a life transition, the weight of a low mood, or the pressure to have it all figured out. When we’re hooked, we react. We hide, we overcompensate, or we just stay stuck.I’m an LGBTQ2S+ identified social worker, and I help people get unhooked.
PETER REID, MSW, RSW.

Getting unhooked
How I can help you move forward
My approach is trauma-informed, anti-oppressive and rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), supported by CBT and Emotion Focused Therapy.
The experience
I’m a direct, curious, and empathetic therapist. Our work together isn't about "fixing" you—because you aren't broken. It’s about building psychological flexibility.
In our sessions, we look at:
The Hooks: Identifying the specific thoughts and feelings that pull you away from the person you want to be.
The Values: Figuring out what actually matters to you once we strip away the "shoulds" of your family, your job, and our community.
The Action: Taking small, brave steps toward a life that feels authentic, even while the anxiety or self-doubt is still in the room.
I'm glad you're here
A Social Worker for 17 Years

Specializing in LGBTQ2S+ mental health, I am welcoming to any adult ready to stop the struggle and start moving forward. Here is a bit more about my background and why I work the way I do.17 Years of ExperienceI have been a social worker for 17 years. During that time, I have worked across a variety of settings and systems, including child welfare, healthcare, and education.Working with hundreds of clients over nearly two decades has taught me that while life is often difficult, you do not have to navigate it alone. My experience in these different sectors has shaped my belief that therapy should be practical and accessible, not overly complicated. Why I Lead with ACT?I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as my primary modality because it resonates with me personally and professionally. It is built on the idea of giving up the struggle with things we cannot change so we can focus on what we can. Before I am a social worker, I am a person who has faced life challenges similar to yours. I lean on ACT because it offers a clear path toward resilience. While it is my main focus, I integrate other therapeutic methods whenever they are appropriate for your specific needs.Getting GroundedTo stay grounded and maintain my own perspective, I prioritize spending time outdoors and exploring the world.Nature: I enjoy walking in the forest, taking in mountain views, and visiting waterfalls.Discovery: I value experiencing new cultures and foods through travel—getting to know the world one trip at a time.
I maintain a professional presence at the York Wellness Collective in Newmarket for in-person sessions (by appointment) and administrative correspondence.
